Di Acetone Alcohol (DAA)
Details
DAA contains both an alcohol and a ketone group in the molecule and consequently has marked solvent power and is highly reactive.
Diacetone alcohol is a clear, colourless, high boiling, slow evaporating liquid. It is both a ketone and alcohol and is miscible with water and most organic solvents, and will dissolve oils, fats, tars, dyes, waxes, and crude rubber.
Because diacetone alcohol is both a ketone and alcohol, it is a good solvent for cellulose ethers and esters, polyvinyl chloride-acetate, epoxy resins and many natural and synthetic lacquer resins including some of the vinyl types.
Diacetone alcohol is miscible with water and most organic solvents, and will dissolve oils, fats, tars, dyes, waxes, and crude rubber. The more important applications for this solvent are in surface coatings to improve blush resistance and flow-out properties, and in penta-chlorophenol wood preservative solutions.
Other applications for diacetone alcohol include crop protection formulations, adhesives, printing inks, blanket washes and as a chemical intermediate.
Diacetone alcohol is not recommended for coating applications intended to come into contact with food or other compounds containing sulphur.
Benefits:
- Will dissolve oil, fats, tars, dyes, waxes and crude rubber.
- It is good solvent for cellulose ethers and esters, polyvinyl chloride-alcetate, epoxy resins and many natural and synthetic resins including some of the vinyl type.
- More important benefit of this solvent are the surface coatings to improve blush resistance and flowout properties, and in pentachlorophenol wood preservative solutions.
